AC DC hipot tester is also called electrical insulation strength tester or dielectric strength tester. A test of applying a specified AC DC high voltage between the live part and the non-live part (usually the casing) of the electrical appliance to check the withstand voltage capability of the insulating material of the electrical appliance.
AC DC hipot tester is also called electrical insulation strength tester or dielectric strength tester. A test of applying a specified AC high voltage between the live part and the non-live part (usually the casing) of the electrical appliance to check the withstand voltage capability of the insulating material of the electrical appliance. It is a destructive test for poorly insulated samples; electrical appliances must not only withstand the rated working voltage during long-term operation, but also withstand the short-term overvoltage effect that is higher than the rated working voltage during operation (The overvoltage value may be several times higher than the rated working voltage value). Under the action of these voltages, the internal structure of the electrical insulating material will change.
When the overvoltage intensity reaches a certain value, the insulation of the material will break down, the electrical appliance will not operate normally, and the operator may be electrocuted, endangering personal safety. In the hipot test, a voltage higher than normal operation is applied to the product, and this voltage must last for a specified period of time.
If the leakage current of a component remains within the specified range for a specified time, it can be determined that the component operates under normal conditions and should be very safe. And good design and well-chosen insulation can protect the user. For general appliances, the hipot test is to test the breakdown current between the live wire and the casing. The basic rule is to use twice the working voltage of the object to be tested, plus 1000V, as the voltage standard for testing. The test voltage of some products may be higher than twice the working voltage +1000V.
